Candy B. Harrington & Charles Pannell
As a travel writer for over 40 years, Candy B. Harrington has long been known as the go-to expert on accessible travel. In addition to being the founding editor of Emerging Horizons — a one-stop travel resource for wheelchair-users and slow walkers — Harrington has also authored scores of books and articles on accessible travel. Her travel photographer husband, Charles Pannell, not only illustrates Harrington’s work with his stunning photographs, but he’s also responsible for formatting her books, crafting websites for every title, and maintaining Emerging Horizons.
Harrington has a particular interest in national parks, and has also penned many titles on some of her favorites. Says Harrington, “People often underestimate the accessibility of our national parks, because at first glance they may appear to be too rugged for wheelchair-users or slow walkers. The truth is, many of them offer accessible trails, lodging options, attractions and even tours that will work for people of all abilities. They really are a great vacation choice for everyone.”
Candy is also a frequent speaker about accessible travel issues, and maintains her popular Barrier-Free Travel Blog at www.barrierfreetravels.com. And when she and Charles aren’t on the road ferreting out new accessible travel finds, they both enjoy the peace and quiet of their mountain home in the Sierras.
